A Eulogy to Ahjula – Glossary

Since I occasionally write or add “foreign” words to my writing, I’ve decided to add a glossary as a page here, for anyone curious what they mean. These languages are made up by me, but usually inspired by real ones. I tend to look up what a word might mean in these languages, mix them up and then add my own personal flair to it, when I feel it’s right.

What is included here is: the province + the word itself + (what language it’s from) + a translation, rough equivalent or what it is.
As for where the languages are spoken, you can see that on the provinces post.

The page will be expanded upon when new words crop up.
Also, mild warning: there are real-world swearwords included here.

ALL:
Ahjula – Beginning or Arrival or Deliverer (in older tongues)

NGOYAMEN:
Kebari – (Hooshay) hello
Aiwei – (Hooshay) outlander, but also a kind of insult, like “idiot”
Tarifq – (Nswarha) buddy, a little bit rude
Mbjaker – (Nswarha) Mild insult, like “fool” or “dumbass”
Otapiwa – (Hooshay) Harsh insult, like “asshole” or “fucker”
Mweger – (Nswarha) outsider, foreigner
Pucau – (Nswarha) Harsh insult, like “fucker”, “asshole”, but also “heathen”
Shadi – (Hooshay) mrs, miss
Mzteer – (Hooshay) sir, mr
Mrabang – (Hooshay) Noun, “good-looking”, “beautiful”, “darling”

VITALOÑA:
Caréhon – (Pordephin) Mild insult, “bastard”
Pufera – (Pordephin) Very harsh insult, like “cunt”
Krateeru – (Efañelinos) Harsh insult, like “bitch”
Chieno – (Efañelinos) Very harsh insult, like “cunt”
Chierto – (Pordephin) kid

STEORSHLAG:
Dja – (Goetejul) Yes
Herrsangu – (Goetejul) expression of surprise, like “My god”
Untrein – (Goetejul) expression of surprise or interest, lighter version of ‘herrsangu’
Helheum (or Hel) – (Goetejul, Skaengir) what Death’s Realm is called in a lot of Steorshlag
Skitabal – (Foerngu-en) An explicit, “goddammit” or “fucking shit”
Arshye-bu – (Goetejul) “asshole” or “bastard”
Fhothee – (Foerngu-en) “shit”, as in an expletive
Balete – (Goetejul) “shit” or “hell”, as in an expletive
Skaeljur – (Goetejul) Skalds, a.k.a. northern warrior poets
Brakher – (Foerngu-en) brother, pal
Sanynge – (Foerngu-en) Insult for “lawless crook”, but more meaningfully as someone who lacks morals and pedigree
Mield – (Goetejul) mead, which is where the name derives from

GEB’NIJK:
Prani/Pranti/Pramiwo – (Belski) Sir/Madame/Neutral
Yake – (Belski) yes

SHAIM XIL:
Guangishyu – (Junvishti) A type of salted fish
Arakeshu – (Junvishti) A rice wine in Dezasha, very popular, moderately strong
Twisingek – (Junvishti) Cheap beer in Dezasha
Shoo-nea dwom em khri-yoo – (Junvishti) A spicy type of steamed fish dish
Jungei – (Junvishti) Slang term for “merc”
Deyunnu – (Junvishti, Huanbasi) A regional version of death or the afterlife
Jáwimder – (Junvishti) outlander
Chouken – (Junvishti) A honorific, “miss”
Po gasi – (Junvishti) Somewhat harsh insult, “shithead”
Shemfwa – (Junvishti) nonsense
Ván chaot – (Junvishti) Somewhat harsh insult, “bastard”, “asshole”
Zuekon ickei – (Junvishti) A dish with rice, shredded beef, bamboo shoot and zayo sauce
Zayo sauce (Junvishti) – soy sauce

ENARYUN:
Kusjol – (Suhengi) A type of somewhat harsh insult, “asshole”
Perkzure – (Suhengi) Milder insult, kinda like “bastard”
Ahepiä – (Suhengi) Milder insult, kinda like “dumbo”
-mahe – (Suhengi) A friendly suffix
-yo – (Suhengi) An emphasis in some way, and can also be “mine” or “my”
Täle yo – (Suhengi) “my friend”
Yarukki – (Suhengi) Mild insult, roughly “scoundrel”
Hesheröi – (Suhengi) This world’s ronin, translates to “spirit without guide”
Chikaska – (Suhengi) profanity, like “Shit” or “oh shit”

Chodna – (Torundi) A type of curse words, like “fuck”
Preshab – (Torundi) A type of curse word like “damn”
Vuah – (Berautl) “Wow”
